The Agricultural Engineering Department shall be a Service Department and be responsible for the Conservation, Development and Management of the Soil and Water Resources of the State.

The Agricultural Engineering Department shall take up works relating to Moisture Conservation, Soil Conservation, Water Harvesting and alternate land use in all Watershed Development, Area Development Dryland Development and catchments of River Valley Projects, and in the River basins of Tamil Nadu.
